Solutions are usually of two types. Homogeneous and heterogeneous solution. Heterogeneous solution are those in which the amount of solute in a ‘particular solvent’ varies from different parts of the solution.  

But in case of homogeneous solutions the amount of solute remains constant all throughout the mixture. When sand and water gets mixed, the sand precipitates hence the ‘bottom of the solution’ contains more sand.
