sound waves which are longitudinal waves are produced when piano is played .
these waves travell by forming compressions and rarefractions in the air
sound of the piano can travel only in a medium. this shows that it requires particles of the medium for transportation. therefore it is a longitudinal wave.
transverse waves on the other hand does not require any material median for transport. they can travel in vaccum. so it is not a transverse wave

=>Longitudinal Wave is produced in air when a piano is played.
=>In this type of wave particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of propagation of wave.
=>On wave is constituted by 1 compression and 1 rarefaction
=>The wave travels in the form of alternate compressions and rarefactions.
-->Sound wave is an example of longitudinal wave.
-->Longitudinal wave cannot be polarised.
-->The wave formed by a piano in air is longitudinal because it required a medium - air to travel.
-->The type of wave formed in a piano is not transverse.This is because in the transverse type of wave , medium is not requires.
-->Light wave is an example of transverse wave.
-->Transverse waves can be polarised.
