we have to find the volume of 1 M NaOH solution needs to be taken for making 0.2M solution of it.
solution : 1 M of NaOH solution means, one mole of solute (NaOH) in one litre of solution.
we know, in dilution, no of moles of solute must remain same.
so the no of moles of NaOH in 1 M NaOH solution = no of moles of NaOH solution in 0.2M NaOH solution.
⇒ 1 mol = 0.2 M × v
[ ∴ no of moles of solute = molarity × volume of solution ]
⇒ 5L = v
therefore 5 litres of 1 M NaOH solution needs to be taken for making 0.2M solution of it.
