What volume of 6.0 M HCl must be used to prepare 500.0 mL of a 0.300 M solution?

Given Molarity of HCl solution = M1 = 6.0 M

Volume of solution = V1 = ?

Given Molarity of  final soution to = M2 = 0.3 M

Volume of final solution = V2 = 500 mL = 1/2 L= 0.5 L

we know that M1.V1 = M2.V2 ...(Dilution equation)

(6.0)(V1) = (0.3)(0.5)

6.V1  = 0.15

V1 ==> 0.15 / 6 = 0.025 L = 25 mL

Thus, 25 mL of 6 M solution is required to prepare 500 mL solution of

0.3 M
