A volume of 1.7 L would be occupied by a gas at 4:00 atmospheric pressure and 169 degree celsius temperature if its volume at STP is 4.2 litres

We know, at STP,

Pressure (P₁) = 1 atm

Volume (V₁) = 4.2L

Temperature (T₁) = 273 K

Again, to find the volume of the gas, we assume it to be V₂.

Pressure (P₂) = 4 atm

Temperature (T₂) = 169°C = (169+273)K = 442 K

According to ideal gas law,

P₁V₁/T₁ = P₂V₂/T₂

Putting their respective values, we get:

(1×4.2/273) = (4×V₂/442)

⇒2V₂/221 = 4.2/273

⇒ V₂ = 1.7 L

Required volume is 1.7L
