When we look at the social and political divisions together when we first see it;

(i) The social isolation of Itwouldappearthatthecombinationofpoliticsand is extremely dangerous and explosive.

(ii) Democracy involves competition between different political parties / parties. Their competition often divides society.

If political parties start to compete based on some of the differences created in society it can lead to social conflicts and social divisions. For example, Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland.

• Northern Ireland has been a violent and bitter conflict for many years.

• Similarly political competition on the religious and ethnic lines leads to the partition of Yugoslavia into six independent countries.
