The US hardly touched by war. Very few civilian casualties. The USSR having suffered huge civilian and military casualties. The Russians had captured a good deal of German technology, scientists and engineers. Soviet intelligence had obtained a good understanding of the allied nuclear program. With strong investment they did not take long to develop their own nuclear industry. They were also in control of much of eastern Europe and some other territories.
