Author expected that Todd will return his doller very soon but after a long time Todd still hasn't returned his money but his attitude is still the same because he did not directly asked for it

The narrator had lend money to todd with the hope that he would pay him the money soon. However in coarse of time,the narrator's friend seems to have forgotten all about it.He gave repeated clues to make todd remnd him, but eh fails to recall about it. At last the narrator looses hope and he deems this loan dollar as lost for ever.
