On Sunday, 22 January 1905, (9 January Old Style) the workers of St Petersburg organised a peaceful demonstration to demand political and constitutional reform. 150,000 demonstrators, including whole families, led by an Orthodox priest, Father Georgi Gapon, marched through the city streets armed with a petition to be presented to the tsar, Nicholas II.

❏ In the severe winter of 1886 , when outdoor work came to a standstill , the London poor exploded in a riot , demanding relief from the terrible condition of poverty .

❏ Alarmed shopkeeper closed down their establishment , fearing the 10,000 strong crown that was marching from Dept Ford to London . The marcher had to be disperse by the police . A similar riot occurred in late 1887



❏ It was brutally suppressed by the police
