It was an incident which took place at Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur district (U.P) on 5th January 1922 where revolutionaries participating in Non-cooperation movement forgetting their non-violent ambition burnt the police station along with 21 police men and an inspector were burnt . It became one of the major reason for the withdrawal of non-cooperation movement by Gandhiji as he recognised that his movement is taking turn towards violence instead of non-violence.
