Chipko movement was a non- violent movement that aimed at protection and conservation of forests from being destroyed. During this people used to hug trees so as to prevent them from being cutting down. Since forests were very important of the local people as they used to get many daily items from these forests like food, shelter, etc. Forest also helps in maintaining ecological balance.

(i) The Chipko movement quickly spread across communities and media, and forced the government, to whom the forest belongs, to rethink their priorities in the use of forest produce.
(ii) Due to the participation of local people, it led to the efficient management of forests
