Damin-i-Koh was the land of the Santhals. The three reasons the Santhals resisted against the Britishers were;-
1. Heavy taxes were levied from Santhals on the land cleared for cultivation.
2. The moneylenders charged high rates of interest and even took over their lands when debts remained unpaid.
3. The zamindars began asserting control over the Damin area.
Explanation:
- The Santhals were given the land by the British for persuading them to settle in the foothills of Rajmahal. They were supposed to live there and work on agriculture on the land and settle down as peasants on the land.
- The land was enclosed with boundary pillars and was separated from both the world of the settled agriculturists of the plains and the Paharias of the hills.
- Due to a number of factors there was a major discontentment among the Santhals which started to develop, and the land given to them for cultivation started slipping away from their hands. That is why they were dissatisfied, and they revolted against the British.
