Dhamma is a Prakrit form of Sanskrit means Dharma(law).

Ashoka followed Buddhism and gave up Kalinga war. He spread Buddhism beyond the boundaries of India.


According to Ashoka Dhamma was based on religious tolerance, respect to elders, care for  the old ones, kindness towards the needy, purity and truthfulness , no Killing of animals. He said no to violence. He adopted the path of nonviolence & he gave up war.


The places where edicts of Ashoka have been found are :

1. Lumbani

2. Kaushambi

3. Amravati

4. Somnath

5. Shabargarhi

Ashoka is regarded as one of the most popular rulers of ancient India...he belonged to Mauryan Dynasty and was born in 302 BC.. he succeeded to the throne after his father's Reigni.e. bindusara ..
he was horrified by the war of Kalinga and hence de used to adopt the policy of non violence..this involves ASHOKA'S DHAMMA policy too..

ASHOKA'S DHAMMA:
though Ashoka himself followed Buddhism.. he preached only the good things of Buddhism..his DHAMMA comprised derivation from the prakit form of SANSKRIT word dharma.
.it wasn't dogmatic but was a set of moral principles According to him..

it includes
1 respect of elders.
2 proper treatment of youngsters
3 ahimsa
4 tolerance
5 charity
6 pure life
etc...
