Official records

These are the authentic records which were accumulated from four chief sources:

the English and later British East India Company (1600–1858),

the Board of Control (1784–1858),

the India Office (1858–1947),

the Burma Office (1937–48).

The compilation also combines reports from many smaller affiliated organizations. In aggregate, the compilation is made up of nearly 175,000 articles, comprising of sanctioned newspapers and documents, documents, images, calligraphed pictures, and individual papers.

Other record's of British rule.

Other records of the British period was not the authorized records published by the company but it includes the personal diaries of people who witness the various activities during that time.

The accounts of travelers also play a very important role because India witnesses various travelers from all around the world who use to give a better description of various events which they observed without any biasness in their diaries.

Many other records such as letters of reformers and autobiographies also give a lot of information of British period
