Dinosaurs are a diverse group of reptiles of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, between 243 and 233.23 million years ago, although the exact origin and timing of the evolution of dinosaurs is the subject of active research.

Dinosaurs:

Dinosaur, the common name given to a group of reptiles, often very large, that first appeared roughly 245 million years ago (near the beginning of the Middle Triassic Epoch) and thrived worldwide for nearly 180 million years. Most died out by the end of the Cretaceous Period, about 66 million years ago, but many lines of evidence now show that one lineage evolved into birds about 150 million years ago.

What is cause of extinction of Dinosaurs?

The extinction of dinosaurs occurred some 65 million years ago during the Cretaceous-Tertiary Extinction event. It was believed till 1980s that the change in environment and food shortage resulted in the extinction of dinosaurs. Later on, Luis and Walter discovered iridium from the places where fossils of dinosaurs were discovered. This element is present in outer bodes and it was suggested that fall of comets resulted in the extinction of dinosaurs.
