Einstein had a very hard time finding a job after graduating from the Zurich Polytechnic. Even his father attempted to find him one, but Einstein's antics at the Polytechnic kept him from getting good recommendations for employment in the scientific community.
He tried to get a job as a teacher but he was unable to find a position. A friend and colleague told him about a job opening at the Swiss Patent Office. He was hired as a patent clerk and that was his first job.
