The estate general was a generalassembly representing the French,estates of the realm: the clergy ( firstEstate), the nobility ( Second Estate). Summoned by king Louis XVI, it was brought to an end when the Thirdestate formed into a national assembly, inviting the order to to join, against the wishes of king.
