What was Gandhi's attitude towards guarding his character ? ​

As a student, Gandhi didn't have any high opinion of his merit. But he was very conscious of building and guarding his character. The least blemish on his character drew tears from him. Whenever he deserved a rebuke, he found it unbearable to him. Whenever he got punishment, he didn't so much mind it as he minded the fact that he deserved it.
