Gulliver got married to Mary Burton quite early on in the novel but we seldom see him spending time at home with his wife. She even expresses her desire for him not to go back to see but he leaves anyway. Gulliver, upon his return in the final part of the novel, becomes thoroughly disgusted with humanity at large. He thought that by bearing him children, Mary had merely complicated the population count. Mary Burton's character has no psychological depth, she is merely a symbol of all that does not interest Gulliver.
