The "Go East" (Dong Du) Movementoccurred among Vietnamese nationalists (usually cited as 1907-1908) in an effort to modernize Vietnam with the view of deposing the French rule and restoring the Nguyen dynasty. Approximately 300 intellectuals went to study in Japan following the Japanese success against Russia in 1907.

(iii) The nationalists appealed to japanese as fellow Asians. Japan had defeated russia in 1907 & Proved their capability.

(iv) The nationalists of vietnam founded "restoration society " in tokyo in 1908, But the japanese ministry forced them to exile to china & thailand.
