A Question of Trust by Victor Canning is story about a man named Horace Danby who although is a good citizen is not an honest one as he commits a robbery every year
Explanation:
- Horace Danby was suffering from hay fever. .This affected him because he sneezed a great deal due to the flowers in the house at Shotover Grange that he had intended to rob. Because of his sneezing, the lady discovered his presence
- The lady posed as the house's owner. She said Horace Danby that if he was concerned about his job, he should see a doctor. His sneezing had brought her down from the top of the house and she thanked the stars that she had noticed the burglar just before he had tried to rob the house/
- She decided to let Horace go provided he did something for her. The suggestion was readily accepted by Horace. The woman claimed she had came to take her jewels as she was heading to a wedding. She had forgotten the numbers to open the safe and told Horace to open the safe for her. Horace unlocked the safe and gave her the jewellery. And then the lady allowed him to go.
- After few days Horace was caught by the police for robbery at the house as his fingerprints were found in the locker. It was then he had realised that he was tricked and the lady who had asked him to open the safe was actually a thief herself and she had tricked Horace into unlocking the safe and escaped with valuables. All this happened due to Horace's Hay fever.
