INDIA responded to the cold-war with a huge NO-NO! India took up the mantle of leadership of the third world countries and tried to keep them aloof from any superpower influence. The then Indian Prime Minister, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, created the Non- Alignment Motion so as to achieve the goal and help the so underdeveloped nations i.e., the third world countries.

India was always skeptical about the effects of cold war on these nation and didn't want them to be affected by the hegemony of the super powers. Even now, India tends to maintain a healthy relationship with all, seldom trying to take sides unless it's an obvious mistake from someone.
