Harris was extremely fascinated by tombs and graveyards. As their boat came near Hampton Church, he proposed stopping to visit the graveyard, where someone named Mrs. Thomas was rumoured to have a funny tombstone. But Jerome was just opposite to Harris. He found graveyards depressing and unpleasant. He disliked the idea of visiting a graveyard and so protested.
