Hello Mate,

The Khilafat movement was a very important event in the political history of India. The Muslims of India had a great regard for the Khilafat (Caliphate) which was held by the Ottoman Empire. During World War I, the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) joined the war in favour of Germany. But Turkey and Germany lost the war and a pact commonly known as Istanbul Accord was concluded between the Allied Forces on 3rd November 1918. According to this Pact the territories of Turkey were to be divided among France, Greece and Britain...

while the rowlatt Satyagraha was a great success but it was still limited only to towns and cities Mahatma Gandhi now began thinking of a more broad based movement to be launched in India but he knew that no such movement would be organised without bringing the Muslims and Hindus together the first world war ended with the defeat of Ottoman Turkey and there were rumours that Harsh peace treaty was going to be imposed on the emperor of Ottoman the Khalifa the head of the Islamic world a young generation of brothers like Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali vigyan discussing with Mahatma Gandhi about the possibility of a United mass action to bring the Hindus and Muslims under the umbrella of unified mass action at the Calcutta session of Congress in September 1920 Mahatma Gandhi convince the other leaders to start a non cooperation movement in support of khilafat.
