The Brahmins of the Chola society were primarily divided into two religious sects, the Saivites and the Vaishnavites. Sri Vaishnavas are also called Vaikhanasa. The Saiva Brahmins were called Siva-brahmanas. Among the Vaishnavas was also probably a sect called Arulaladasa.
