Russia faced in acute shortage of grain between 1927-1927. Joseph Stalin who succeeded Vladimir Lenin after his death felt that the shortage of grain supplies who is mainly due to small land holdings that the peasants had. The small land holdings could not be modified or modernized easily. Hence Stalin brought about his collectivizatiin his collectivisation program he said that all patients were required to cultivate crops on peace large land holdings called KOLKHOZ.
