In 1947, Lord Mountbatten became the Viceroy of India. He tried to resolve the political deadlock of our country.So he made an important announcement on June 3rd 1947. This is called as Mountbatten plan.
According to this plan, India has to divided into two independent countries namely, Indian Union and Pakistan Union. The Remaining states were given the option to join either of the two independence nation or remain independence. Both Congress and Muslim League accepted this plan.
