HEY DEAR......!!

The Mariner kills the Albatross. In killing the Albatross, the Mariner commits a crime against creation. The Albatross was not only a good omen for sailors, it was one of God's creatures and hence sacred as all living things are. The Mariner is yet to learn this.

Answer:

The mariner had killed the albatross. The albatross was the creation of god and represented the god according to in their mythology. It brought good luck and showed direction according to the other mariners. Hence the mariner felt guilty after comitting the sin.

He had no particular reason for doing the sinful act. Probably he was bored of the monotonous life routine and wanted a change. Perhaps he was a hunter itself, but wasn't killing the bird earlier due to his friends' indulgence. Probably he felt threatened by the bird and didn't like the way everyone was feeding it with the grains.

These are some of the reasons I have hypothesized and please text me back if you come up with any new ideas.
