What was Marseillaise ? What led to the formation of Marseillaise ?
Answers
The French struggle and patriotism led to its formation.
Marseillaise was a nationalistic song produced by poet Roget de L’ Isle.
Although Louis XVI approved the constitution, he started the confidential discussions with the King of Prussia. Leaders of the other neighboring nations too were disturbed by the advancements in France and made plans to send troops to put down the events that had been taking place there since the summer vacation of 1789. Before this could occur, the National Assembly established in April 1792 and announced war upon Prussia and Austria. Thousands of missionaries thronged from the territories to enter into the military. They saw this as a battle of the people against kings and nobles all over Europe.
So Marseillaise was chanted for the first time by the missionaries from Marseilles as they stepped into Paris and so got its title. The Marseillaise is now the national song of France.
