Due to the faliure of Rowlatt satyagraha  , Mahatma Gandhi felt the need to launch a more broad based movement in India  .  So Gandhi took up the khilafat issue to bring muslims and hindus under one roof and started non cooperation movement  in support of khilafat as well as swaraj

Mahatma Gandhi called of the movement because of increase in violence taking place in different parts of India.

( mainly in Awadh , The Gudem Hills of Andhra Pradesh , in Assam and the incident that took place in Chauri Chaura)
