Draft is another name for conscription in the United States.
Able bodied men were recruited to fill vacancies in the United States Armed Forces, whether they like it or not. These men had to then serve in far off, hostile territories or wherever the government needed them to serve. For this reason, it was quite unpopular.
Draft was used during the American revolution, the Civil War, World War I and World War II.
