Vernacular press was an act introduced by the British government in its repressive colonial policies which forbade any information from daily newspapers which may excite the feelings of nationalism among Indians from different corners of India.

Periodic Press:
Periodical presses are those which combine information about current affairs with entertainment, which developed in the early eighteenth century at Europe. Newspapers and journals carried information about wars and trade through these presses. They also spread the ideas of scientists and philosophers. The discoveries of Isaac Newton and the writings of Thomas Paine, Voltaire, Jean Jacques Rousseau were widely read by people and printed in mass no/s.
Some Indian Periodical presses:
1. Jam-i-Jahan Nama
2. Shamsul Akhbar
3. Bombay Samchar
These were started printing only in the early nineteenth century.
