Professor's visit  to Bombay was part of an adventure in which he would explore a different space and time in his path of distracted consiousness .The visit to Bombay could be due to various reasons  one of them being to meet his son Mr Vinay . Moreover he could be intending to make clearances of various historical occurences concerning the Battle of panipat at the Bombay Library.
