In human body, nails of hand and feet are made up of Alpha-Keratin protein.

Apart from nails, hairs have also the same protein which keeps them strong and shiny.

This protein acts as the protective layer and due to the presence of alpha-protein the nail becomes tough and protects the inner cells of the fingers from the damage.

There is a difference between the keratin protein found in the human's nail and animal's nail.

Humans and mammals have alpha-keratin protein while the animals and other reptiles have beta-keratin protein.
