After India got independence in 1947, there have been several reactions from common man and society at large.
Along with the joy of attaining freedom, came the distressing reality of the partition of India and Pakistan. Several people got displaced from their homes on both side of teh border. Those muslims who lived in India for several generations, had to migrate to Pakistan and adopt a new country. Similarly, several Hindus who were born and lived in Pakistan for several generations had to migrate to India. They became homeless, lost properties, lost families and were orphaned. There were many atrocities like looting, rape, burning or homes, etc for several years. Partition has caused untold woes in the lives of thousands of people and the repurcussions are experienced even today.
By employing nonviolent civil disobedience, the Gandhi led India to meet independence and also inspired movement of civil right and freedom across the world.
