Rowlatt act was a act which gave immense power to the government to repress political activities and retention of political prisoner without the trial for 2 years.

rallies were organised , shops were closed down and strike on railway stations.in response to this British arrested local leaders and banned Gandhi from entering Amritsar.Due to the attacks on post office,railway stations and police stations by the people,martial was imposed and general dyer took command

the British authorities implimented several unjust laws that denied civil rights to the Indians .Among them the rowlatt act triggered mass protests
The act authorized , to arrest an Indian without any warrant,detain any indefinitely without trial, cundoct trials in special courts,deny the right of appeal petition.

The people intensely opposed the act by organizing marches, hunger strikes,demonstration, public meetings,and civil disobedience
