Salt march or Dandi March was a satyagraha lauched by Mahatma Gandhi on 6 April 1930.
The aim behind this movement was that Mahatma Gandhi and other Indians felt that it was sinful to tax salt as it is an essential ingredient of food and the state was making a huge monopoly in the sale and purchase of salt.

==>> The Civil Disobedience Movement was started in 1930 with the famous Salt Satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi also known as Dandi March that was launched on 12 March 1930.

On that day, Gandhiji with some of his followers left the Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad and made their way towards Dandi, a village on the west coast of India. After travelling for 25 days and covering a distance of 385km, they reached Dandi on 6 April 1930.

Here, Gandhiji protested against the Salt Law by making salt himself and throwing up a challenge to the British government. The movement spread and salt laws were challenged in other parts of the country.
