This explanation has been given assuming that the Sher Singh in question is from the Story “Journey by Night”, written by Norah Burke.
Sher Singh was the son of a famous hunter, who lost his siblings to many diseases. His younger brother Kunwar had fallen sick and had to be taken to the hospital in Kalaghat, which was 50 miles away. As there were no men at home, he decided to take him by himself to the hospital and carried him.
He had to pass through the jungle and cross two rivers to reach the hospital quickly. As he was passing through a jungle, he came across a cobra, a herd of elephants, and fresh footprints of a tiger. After much struggle, they crossed the jungle and the river and got a lift in a bullock cart and a truck and reached the hospital in Kalaghat.
Sher Singh later found a job in the rail yards and earned some money. He earned the title of “Bahadur” for his bravery and for unfound love for his brother.
