As Franz went to school that day there were many temptations enticing him not to go to school that day. The first temptation was his lack of preparation for the test on participles. Apart from it, there were other temptations. It was very warm and bright. The birds were chirping at the edge of the woods; and in the open field back of the sawmill the Prussian soldiers were drilling. It was all much more tempting than the rule for participles, but he had the strength to resist, and hurried off to school.

Answer:

In this story, Flamingo, the author has described Franz to be a little boy who despised going to the schools because he found the classes to be a bit too noisy for his liking.

So, on that morning when he woke up, he found the weather to be pleasant, and quite tempting.

So, he ditched the school and decided to enjoy the weather.
