subsistence crisis was a state in which there was sudden rise of taxes by the king Louis XVI because the treasury was empty when he became the kingbecause there was a sudden release in poputlation(i don't remember which year but you can find it) and s e need of food production was started by the production didn;t increase.
the number two factor was that the when treasury eas empty the king wanted to maintain the army cots and other living resources for him  and other family members he raised the taxes
