"Yeddo" was the old name of the present day Shillong, which was later changed to new name after a name of a peak of the same.

Answer:Yeddo is not correct. Prior to the arrival of the British, there was no Shillong. There was just forested hills. Yeddo is a mispronunciation by non locals of 'iew duh' which means 'bazar. ' Through British encouragement, a bazar known as Laban was set up at the foothills of Lum Shillong ( Shillong peak) . The bazar grew and with it the residential areas. Later on the name was changed to Shillong sometime in 1850s
