The increase in literacy of British culture was developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, this indicated also progress in education standards of women. The affection for the reading of ladies made women take part significantly in the literary business. initially, women were allowed to read but later on the patriarchal society formed some efforts to prohibit a large number of books to read by the women of the time. They thought the novels took away people from their real surroundings to an imaginative world. Novels could easily corrupt the thoughts of people; therefore, women and children were advised not to read novels. Men were skeptical of females reading or composing novels. This mistrust cut across societies. Many thought women would grow stubborn and refuse to adhere to customs.
