That someone has given you misinformation and half-truths. When you want to know about Guru Nanak’s opinion about Islam and Quran, you must directly approach the Guru and read his own writings & of those whom he had collected & put together with his own (thank God they are still available). The Guru was a God-sent who came to refresh God’s uncorrupted truth and to enlighten the masses. Since his divine mission & message was for mankind, he approached Muslim holy places as well - besides approaching those of Hindus’ & Buddhists’ & Christians’ (only goes to show his true universal spirit). had he not gone to Mecca, then Muslims would say he was discriminate towards Muslims/Islam. So, he was fair to approach Mecca as well. When he never embraced Islam & prophet Muhammad as his prophet in the first place, then why would he be performing Hajj? Makes no sense. Not every time that someone goes to Mecca in history is necessarily Muslim performing Hajj. Sometimes, out of sense of love for mankind without discriminating one based on religion, a great spirit like Guru Nanak Sahib does come along to wake us out of our chauvinism. He not only preached to laymen - but rather to varaious priests & leaders of various religions. When leaders themselves are ignorant or corrupt, then imagine the plight of that organized religion.
