Answer:

The main reason behind the Quit India Movement was Gandhiji's dislike of the return of Cripps pertaining to the British Government's Draft Declaration. Also, after the failure of the Satyagraha that was more individual-oriented, Gandhiji gave a call for 'Do-or-die'. Also, the Congress leaders were demoralized.

The failure of Cripps Mission was the main reason which made Gandhi launch the Quit India Movement. Other factors such as fear of Japan attacking India, terror in East Bengal and the fact that British could no longer defend India resulted in the launch of the movement.

In August 1942, Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement on the basis of the resolution passed on 8 August, 1942 in Bombay by the All India Congress Committee, demanding the end of British rule. The whole nation was inspired by the slogan "Do or Die". There were hartals all over the country.

This movement brought independence closer.
