In it’s initial days, The company was held by rich people, aristocrats basically. It was chartered on 31st December, 1600 by the queen to be trading and sailing in the ocean. It was primarily because in the year 1592 and by 1594, the British had realised the wealths and market of the Southeast Asian sub continent and wanted to exploit such markets and give the already present Portuguese and Chinese traders a run for their money

The seize of a Portuguese ship, Madre de Deus {1592}, by the English forces gave the English an idea of how much wealth is stored in the Southeast Asian countries, and the navigation charts provided the way to such market. and then, the English wanted to give Portuguese and Chinese. What is noteworthy is that they wanted to fulfil all such from the Southeast Asia, and later on basically from China and Indian subcontinent.
