Natural resources have other functions in the ecosystem and not just for human consumption. They have a natural rate of recovery and need to used at a rate that allows them to maintain their function as well as meeting some of the human wants. With economic gain as the main driver for consumption we often find exploitation as the mode of operation of resource extraction. Hence, now there is a push to conserve resources just to mitigate our over exploitation so that nature can always maintain that balance which benefits us as human any way.
