The British granted Ceylon independence in 1948. The Sinhalese majority immediately began to pass laws that discriminated against Tamils, particularly the Indian Tamils brought to the island by the British. They made Sinhalese the official language, driving Tamils out of the civil service.

It is because of diversity of religions . There are two religions are followed in srilanka
They are ,
1. Srilankan tamil and Indian tamil
2. Sinhala
The Sinhala are the dominant group which the religious made war between the two religions
