The two largely Dutch-speaking communities of Belgium, a nation with a high ethnicities in Europe, with 59 per cent living in the Flemish region and another 40% living in Wallonia are French speaking, with the rest 1 per cent speaking German. Belgium is capital of Brussels, with a majority French population of 80 per cent while the remainder are Dutch.

EXPLANATION:

The two main causes of resentment were:

  • Contrary to the Dutch who were in the majority, the French community, in a minority, was rich and powerful because Dutch had much later than French education.
  • Though the Dutch were in the majority in the nation, they were in the minority in the capital, that is, Brussels.
