Sharecropping: The Jotedars controlled all the commercial businesses and money-lending thus they exercised great power and dominance over poor cultivators. They usually practiced the sharecropping form of agriculture and thus received half of the production from the cultivators.  Due to sharecropping, they could easily control the peasants.
