After acquiring the Diwani rights of Bengal through the treaty of Allahabad, the company decided to remove dastak as a change in company policy. Dastak was the pass given to company officials for carrying out trade in India.
Explanation:
- The company got the right to collect the tax. Issuing dastak to the company officials would be a loss to the treasury of the company as with mere fees the pass was acquired to carry out trade.
- The company could not afford such a loss. So, it decided to remove dastak and in return was given complete rights over the revenue of Bengal resources.
- This revenue was utilized in carrying out the affairs of company and export.
